Eye Diseases

Regular eye examinations are a must because they help detect eye disorders long before the symptoms are manifested. You may feel that you have absolutely no eye problems, but only a comprehensive eye examination can confirm the fact that you have no problems. Here is a brief overview of certain eye disorders:

Conjunctivitis

The common symptoms of conjunctivitis are reddish eyes, excessive production of tears, inflammation, blurring of vision, and irritation in the eyes. If you spot a thick discharge resembling pus around your eyelids, you might be suffering from an infectious variety of conjunctivitis, which is also referred to as “pink eye.”The conjunctiva is the thin layer of transparent tissue that covers the surface of your inner eyelid, right in front of your eye, and conjunctivitis is an infection or inflammation of this layer. This is a common eye disorder that can affect anybody, irrespective of age.

Dry Eye

Dry eye is the condition caused by low production of tears, which sometimes happens when a person ages. The composition of tears undergoes a change with the ageing process, owing to which they evaporate faster and cause symptoms of dry eyes.

Blepharitis

There are two major varieties of blepharitis, an inflammation or infection of eyelids, and it is possible for people to get either one or a combination of both varieties. The common symbols are redness, irritation, burning, itching, scaly skin, and oily discharge.

Stye

A stye is a term used to refer to a blocked gland near the edge of the eyelid that gets infected by Stapylococcus aureus, a variety of bacteria. The symptoms of this disorder are pain and redness on the edge of the eyelid.

Macular Degeneration

The macula is that part of your retina, situated right at the centre and at the back of your eye, which plays an active role in the mechanism of seeing. If you can read properly, drive a car, or recognize the faces of your loved ones, it is because your macula is in proper condition. However, the macula can degenerate with age, causing irreversible vision loss for those above 60 years of age. Millions of people worldwide suffer from vision loss because of this disorder.

Diabetic Eye Disorders

Diabetes can have a terrible effect on your eyes if you are not careful. For instance, a diabetic patient can develop retinopathy, one of the symptoms of which is swelling and weakening of the retinal blood vessels.Diabetes can also cause presbyopia or the inability to view nearby objects. Besides, it can cause eye disorders such as strabismus, a condition in which the muscles of the eyes are unable to coordinate with one another, decreased sensitivity in the cornea, glaucoma, cataract, and others. However, the worst eye disorder a diabetic patient can develop is retinopathy, and if this disorder is ignored, it can lead to permanent loss of vision. We at Optometrist conduct comprehensive eye tests that can identify these disorders at their earliest stages so that treatment can begin at the earliest possible.
